Employers Encounter Supervisory Performance Management Challenges
July 28, 2010 - According to a survey of 96 Northeast Ohio organizations recently published by ERC, employers report several challenges they experience in their performance management systems. Most organizations report that supervisory behaviors are common challenges in their performance management system. Specifically, inconsistent performance documentation by supervisors (71%) and failure of supervisors to provide on-going feedback (69%) are the most commonly reported problems.

“We consistently hear from employers that they struggle with supervisors’ inadequately managing employee performance and that this poses many challenges and risks to their organizations,” says Kelly Keefe, Director of Training and Events at ERC. She adds, “We strongly advocate that employers educate or train their employees on supervisory basics – including essentials such as performance documentation and feedback.”
