Supervisory Series I
Today’s supervisors and managers deal with important responsibilities each day—improving the performance of others, resolving conflict and leading effective teams to name just a few. A breakdown in communication can cause massive losses to any organization. Through a combination of interpersonal skill-based sessions, ERC’s Supervisory Training Series addresses key areas supervisors and managers face, and how to get beyond them to build more productive and high performing workplaces.
Sesssions In This Series Include:
Session I: Supervisory Essentials
Learning Objectives:
- To identify and understand the responsibility of the supervisors role
- To make a successful transition from individual contributor to supervisor
- To learn how to delegate effectively
- To learn to effectively manage information
- To be able to give and receive feedback with staff and management
- To identify additional areas for development as a new supervisor and have a plan for addressing those development needs
Session II:
Coaching and Performance Management
Learning Objectives:
- To build greater personal skill and confidence in the ability to provide coaching
- To manage and guide the performance of others
- To identify performance issues
- To identify some barriers to coaching
- To use different types of coaching discussions
- To use listening skills
- To effectively using questions
- To identify coaching opportunities
Session III:
Managing Difficult Situations
Learning Objectives:
- To understand conflict: Why it exists and where it comes from
- To evaluate the costs that conflict has on an organization
- To understand how to resolve conflict between others, between yourself and another, and in a team environment
- How to plan for and avoid conflict when possible
Session IV: Goal Setting and Team Building
Learning Objectives:
- To understand the development and growth of teams
- To identify the leadership factor in teams, and including others in group decision making
- To understand levels of team empowerment
Session V: Employment Law (Optional)
Learning Objectives:
- Overview of equal employment opportunity laws (Title VII, ADA, ADEA, state FEP laws)
- Hiring considerations (appropriate interview and screening criteria, FCRA, IRCA)
- Prevention and management of complaints of unlawful workplace harassment
- Performance management including performance appraisal and corrective action/coaching/discipline)
- Management of employee leaves of absence (e.g., FMLA, ADA)
- Miscellaneous employment law issues as appropriate to the audience (e.g., contents of various employment files of the organization’s employees; workplace violence; substance abuse; considerations in employment at will)
