New Law Caps Health Premium Costs The state of Ohio has passed a law that caps the amount insurance companies are able to charge individuals with pre-existing health conditions who buy individual policies. Individuals with pre-existing conditions now cannot be charged more than twice the lowest rate the company charges a person of similar age and gender. continue reading... Training: Most Common Way to Develop High Potential Employees According to a recent study of Northeast Ohio employers conducted by ERC, most respondents cite training and workshops as the most common way in which they develop high potential employees, defined as employees with the most potential to move into higher roles within an organization. Training and workshops was the most common method of development among employers, more frequently used than other developmental activities including stretch assignments, mentoring, coaching, development planning, and assessments. continue reading... The Holiday Gift of COBRA The federal government has provided a wonderful holiday gift to employees who have recently lost their jobs. With the Department of Defense Appropriations Act of 2010, the COBRA subsidy found in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) has been extended. In effect, the extended subsidy means that health care should be much more affordable for the short term for those that are in transition. In order to qualify for this subsidy, however, participants will need some help from their former employer(s) and HR friends.
