Employers' Development Initiatives Leave Room for Improvement

According to a recent study of Northeast Ohio employers conducted by ERC, many employers believe their current programs or initiatives to develop high potentials within their organizations are only moderately effective. Approximately one-third of employers say their program is slightly effective and no respondents said their current program/initiative was very effective. In addition, on average, 33% of employees have been promoted in organizations’ current programs. continue...

Job Satisfaction, Employee Engagement And Organizational Success

A recent survey from the Conference Board suggests that Americans’ satisfaction with their jobs is at a 20-year low.  The study reports that only 45% of employees surveyed are happy with their jobs, which is down from 61% in 1987 when the survey was first conducted.  While the study suggests that the economy is partly to blame, there are other factors at work affecting this downward trend. continue reading...

What to Watch in Executive Pay During 2010
From the ERC Blog, "Where Great Workplaces Start"

Executive compensation has shown some remarkable trends in the last year and many leading compensation experts (Mercer, Watson Wyatt, WorldatWork, Pearl Meyer & Partners) suggest that executive compensation will be a fundamental compensation and rewards issue in 2010 seeing as 2009 yielded greater governmental oversight and regulation, decreases or no changes to many executives’ base salaries and bonuses, lower rates of long-term incentive usage due to the difficulty of measuring performance, lower pay adjustments (if any) than prior years, increased focus on driving short term incentives focused on business results and sustainability, and reduction in perquisites. continue reading...

How to Cope with Tax Time Stress

Stress-Free Accounting? Perhaps not but here are a few tips for harried accountants, courtesy of Moreno, owner of wellness coaching firm PeopleFit USA:

  • Reduce, rather than postpone, your fitness program. If it takes too much time to go to the gym, then do light exercise at work. Take the stairs to the office or do squats at your desk.
  • Don't skip breakfast or work through lunch just because you're busy. You'll get fatigued or starved and end up filling the void with junk food. Instead, fuel up at regular intervals on foods like fruit, nuts, yogurt, or hard-boiled eggs. They're healthy and easy to pack.
  • Don't use food to relieve your stress. Try stretching, deep breathing, or a little exercise instead.

CPE at ERC offers local, affordable training during these tough economic times. Click here to be the first to know when our 2010 schedule is released!

Most people understand the importance of keeping their IRA, 401(k) and 403(b) beneficiary designations up-to-date.
