Jeannette Potts, M.D. - Dr. Tango

Follow What You Lead
Tango Lessons for Leadership
Leave the dancing shoes for your two left feet in the closet, but bring your imagination and desire for something different as you prepare to experience leadership from a very fresh and entertaining perspective. Dr. Jeannette Potts is the distinguished Cleveland Clinic physician also known as Dr. Tango, and the engaging motivational presenter who uses live demonstrations and the metaphors of the dance to teach business and life lessons. Learn how to lead with integrity by being accountable for your limitations. Table your ego to let someone else lead, or summon the sensitivity to “steal” the lead. Know what it means to interlead effectively. Ideal as a one-of-a-kind keynote speech, memorable grand finale to a day of traditional training or a lively educational workshop for managers and executives that’s anything but ordinary, Dr. Tango breaks the mold with intellectual, interactive lecture-performances that command encores.

Do Not Anticipate
Tango Lessons for Teamwork
Like business and life, Tango is usually a completely unchoreographed dance. With only eight basic steps, but countless ways to combine and embellish them, no two tangos are the same. In our careers, we are conditioned to think and plan ahead…to practice hard and stand ready to do our part for the team. But, in our highly focused desire to have the answer before the question is even asked, we often misstep and miss our cue. Dr. Tango instructs and dances to show how NOT anticipating can be the key to more harmonious, efficient teamwork. Being prepared is good, but over-preparation can shut down listening, stifle creativity, and leave us without the mobility to see the best solution. Learn how reactivity can actually work better than proactivity, and the importance of having the discipline to remain in the moment, savor the pause and save from tripping. Great for offsite retreats, creative cross-functional team building and employee-boss relationship enhancement.

Don’t Look at Your Feet; Look into My Eyes
Tango Lessons for Communication
If we can be better listeners, we can be better partners, at work and at home. We often forget that listening is actually a form of communicating. Tango teaches how two people can work together in near-perfect harmony, without a single word. In this lesson, Dr. Tango uses the live dance and instructional, inspirational content to demonstrate listening with your heart and how to keep your heart out in front, so you don’t miss the dance, and therefore, business opportunity. Communication can single-handedly break down or build a workplace or personal relationship. Learn this dying art in a way you never have. Perfect as an extraordinary presentation for a power lunch, cool kick-off to a strategic planning session or exciting prelude or main feature of an evening event, this Tango Lesson can also be combined with others.

Sharing the Whole
Tango Lessons for Negotiation
Like the book suggests, “Getting to Yes” is usually the goal for all parties in a negotiation. But, often we don’t get exactly what we want, maybe because we’re practicing the wrong steps or taking the wrong stage. Positional compromise is more likely a win-lose tango, leaving one partner unfulfilled. Principled give and take usually leads to a win-win dance where the glory is evenly distributed. If we are too focused on gaining equal halves, we will miss the beauty and satisfaction of sharing the whole. In this lesson, Dr. Tango educates and performs to illustrate how dancing as if you have 90% of the accountability can negatively impact your negotiation outcome, and how you can change and succeed in the game simply by starting to play a new one. Optimum as a breakthrough sales training session or thought-provoking customer service seminar.

Surrender to Win
Tango Lessons for Stress Management
To most, surrender means to give up or give in…to throw in the towel, wave the white flag, and, well, lose. We see it as a sign of weakness or defeat, but Dr. Tango teaches surrender as a position of strength and peace, which ultimately brings calm to the mind, body and spirit. As a holistic healer, she coaches and dances for participants in this workshop to show that the abandon with which we follow is proportionate to the respect and protection provided by those around us. To live a happier, healthier existence, we must embrace the irony that being in control of our bodies during the dance of life allows us to surrender control of where we are going, and that we must be grounded to be free enough to feel we are flying. Surrender provides release and helps us reach new levels of honesty and trust. Holding out requires us to hold in too much, and this leads to the harboring of toxic attitudes, and physical and psychological breakdown. A perfect partner with other Tango Lessons or a wonderful stand-alone presentation, Surrender to Win is a positively uplifting journey that sheds stereotypes, and even tears.
